Dear Donor Family,
I am writing you to let you know of my gratitude to you and your loved one, who have helped lives such as mine through the gift of tissue donation. Yours is among those compassionate families who have made the decision to help others during your time of grief. Please know I am very sorry for your loss.
I wanted to tell you a little about the reason why I needed this gift. After over a decade of pain in my back, which I thought was due to the arthritis in my spine, I found that I had multiple ruptured discs and bone spurs that were digging into my spinal cord, causing symptoms similar to a stroke. I was in so much pain when I walked that I was using the electric carts at stores just so I could make it through a shopping trip. I hardly went anywhere as it was just too painful. I could barely lift even the youngest of my grandchildren.
Where I had always been a vigorous and strong woman in my youth, I was virtually a cripple at age 59. Thanks to your family's generous gift I am now completely pain-free in my spine for the first time in over a decade. Although I am still limited as I am still healing I can already tell the massive improvement this is going to make in my life.
