Thanks 2 You Program” Shares Anonymous Letters of Gratitude for Donor Families

LifeNet Health welcomes letters of appreciation from transplant recipients who wish to express their gratitude to donor families. Through a dedicated website, http://www.thanks2you.org/, LifeNet Health accepts letters from tissue and organ recipients and facilitates the distribution of those letters to donor families.

Families often find comfort in hearing from the recipients of their loved one's tissue. A simple “thank you” can be uplifting to the family and reassure them that they made a wonderful decision to help others in the midst of their grief.

Read this moving letter from a recipient who was given a second chance at life thanks to the generosity of a donor…

Dear Donor Family:

I would like to let you know how grateful I am to you and your loved one, who have helped my life through this gift of tissue donation! You are among the compassionate families who have made a decision to help others during your time of grief.

Please know that I am very sorry for your loss.

This summer I had my aortic valve and a section of my ascending aorta replaced with a mechanical valve and cloth graft. After that surgery, I developed an infection on the incision and went back for surgery to clean it out. A few months after this surgery I returned to work for several weeks; however, I developed another infection. I returned to the hospital and found out that there was a leak from the graft. I again had surgery to replace the graft at which time the tissue graft was put in.

Since then I have recovered from that surgery and am doing much better. This is the best I’ve felt in quite some time! I can now look forward to being able to walk both my daughters “down the aisle” when the time comes, as well as being able to enjoy the company of my wife and any future grandchildren.

You will always be in my thoughts and prayers because of your generosity.

Thank you so much,

Larry S.
