National Donate Life Month- April 2011

More than 110,000 patients are waiting for a life saving organ transplant; and 18 people die every day in America because a life saving organ is not available.

National Donate Life Month began in 2003 with the support of then Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson and grew out of the Organ Donation Breakthrough Collaborative. It featured an entire month of local, regional and national activities to help encourage Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors and to celebrate those who have saved lives through the gift of donation.

Here's how you can take action:

  • Register as an organ, eye and tissue donor by visiting www.organdonor.gov and search for your state to register online.
  • Consider hosting an online donor drive through your employer or within your circle of personal friends and family.
  • Utilize the "Donate Life Web Banner" available at www.donatelife.net on your business or personal web page to spread the organ donation message.
  • Explore the numerous organ donation "APPS" and share with your friends via Facebook and Twitter.
The opportunities are endless and the impact is life saving!

Get Your Free iPhone ICE App in honor of National Donate Life Month

First responders are better equipped to help you now. This FREE iPhone ICE (In Case of Emergency) application was developed by Donate Life America and LegalZoom – two organizations that share the common goal of empowering people and enriching lives.

The application creates one central location to conveniently store information about your medical conditions and allergies as well as emergency contacts. You can even enter insurance information and contact details for your specific doctors.

The ICE app provides first responders with one touch access to who you are and your key medical information to allow for proper, informed care during an emergency. To help first responders quickly locate your emergency information, we suggest placing the ICE icon in the upper right-hand corner of the first page of your iPhone.

To download your fee app, visit: http://ice-app.net/
